Flashback Friday: Langley Trappers
Thursday, November 26, 2020 - Submitted by Katie Lawrence

We are taking a look back at one of the newest teams in the Pacific Junior Hockey League: the Langley Trappers. They are coached by team president/head coach Burt Henderson, general manager/assistant coach Thomas Koshman, and assistant coach/head scout Scott Sparkman.

The Trappers started in the league during the 2017-18 season, joining the Langley Rivermen as tenants at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Their uniforms are logo are also reminiscent of the Rivermen design, featuring two tones of blue and cream/white accents.

Though their history isn't long, the Trappers have been successful in their first three seasons in the league. They have made it to the playoffs each year, and that has sparked a rivalry with fellow Harold Brittain Conference member, the Abbotsford Pilots.

In their inaugural season, the Trappers fell to the Pilots in their first playoff encounter. The second season was another story though, as the Trappers defeated the Pilots on their way to the finals that year.

The Trappers took first place in the Brittain Conference in 2019-20, but fell in the first round of the playoffs, in an upset win by the Mission City Outlaws.

In their first six games of the now-delayed 2020-21 season, the Trappers got off to a 3-2-0-1 start in Cohort 3 with the Delta Ice Hawks and North Vancouver Wolf Pack.

Twelve Trappers have moved up to Junior A teams so far, and four have gone on to college or university programs.
