City installs safety netting around Ladner Leisure Centre rink
The Ladner Leisure Centre is going to look a little different when the arena is re-opened to hockey and lacrosse fans.
The city has installed safety netting above the glass of the entire playing surface. The LLC glass inside the bluelines was lower than most rinks in Metro Vancouver. There was already netting behind both goals at each end of the arena. Fans no longer have to worry about errant pucks or lacrosse balls.
“The decision itself was made some time last year,” said Ken Kuntz, Delta’s director of parks, recreation and culture. “By the time we secured the product, got it installed, it was really over the summer that you saw most of the netting go up. All of our arenas now have netting around them. It’s just a good safety device and is something that should have been done years ago.”
Safety netting was also recently installed at Sungod Arena in North Delta.
