Flames Repeat as Champs

For the second year in a row, the Ridge Meadows Flames are PJHL Stonehouse Cup champions after a 5-1 win over the Delta Ice Hawks in Game 6.

Playing at Delta’s Ladner Leisure Centre, the Flames took command in the opening frame with goals from Samuel Allen and Tyler Blatz.

Matthew Candusso turned away all pucks that came his way in the Flames goal through 40 minutes. Delta didn’t solve him until the five-minute mark of the third when Dawson Toledo notched his first of the postseason, which got the home side within one but the hope was short lived as Allen, with his second of the night, restored the Flames’ two-goal lead just 67 seconds later.

Lukas Ravenstein, with his fifth goal of the Finals, and Matteo Appezzato added on for Ridge Meadows in the third. Candusso ended up with 30 saves and was named the game’s 1st Star.

There is more hockey ahead for Ridge Meadows as they move on to the Mowat Cup where they will face the winner of the KIJHL.
