The PJHL has announced its Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12, the final week of the regular season.
Chris Fortems, F, White Rock Whalers – In a race with teammate Zach Sherwin for the PJHL scoring title, Fortems made the most of the final week of the regular season and potted 11 points over four games. Fortems had a goal and three helpers in a 6-5 loss to Grandview to start the week but put the Whalers back in the win column the very next night setting up three goals in a 5-2 home win over Richmond where he was 2nd Star. The Delta, B.C. product had a helper in a 3-1 win over Chilliwack and finished up with two tallies and an assist in an 8-3 win over Aldergrove where he was 1st Star. Fortems’ big week not only locked up the 2022-23 scoring title but also put him over 200 points for his PJHL career.
Fortems and the Whalers will take on the Tom Shaw Conference No. 2-seed Richmond Sockeyes in their first playoff round.
Brayden Sinclair, F, Delta Ice Hawks – With 14 points over his last three games, Sinclair put an exclamation point on an incredible rookie season with four goals and 10 assists in three games. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder opened his week with two goals and two assists in a 7-3 home win over Aldergrove and topped that with a six-point night on two tallies and four helpers in a 9-1 road win over Surrey where he was 1st Star. Sinclair notched four assists in a 12-2 road win at Chilliwack to wrap the regular season.
Sinclair and the Ice Hawks await the winner of the Grandview-North Van best-of-three series to see who their opponent will be to start their playoffs.
Jordan Kujala, F, Ridge Meadows Flames – Wrapping up a highly productive season with a bang, Kujala had a six-point night in the final regular-season game as he racked up four goals and two assists in a 7-2 home win over Langley where he was 1st Star. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward last week also had a goal in a 5-2 road win over Richmond and concludes the 2022-23 season with career bests of 26 goals, 27 assists and 53 points in 47 games.
Kujala and the Flames open their playoffs Feb. 22 and 24 hosting Mission City for the first two games of a best-of-seven series.
