PJHL Media
A month of the 2024-25 PJHL season is already in the books and besides the obvious – defending champions Ridge Meadows undefeated with 70 goals in nine games, three players averaging over two points per game, expansion Coastal Tsunami with six wins in their first 10 – there’s plenty to chew on.
Let’s dig into it here in the first News & Notes of the season.
KEAGAN BANKIER WORKING FOR WHALE – Of the teams with winning records so far this season, two are led in scoring by blueliners. Jett Carroll with the Langley Trappers is one. The other is Keagan Bankier of the 8-2 White Rock Whalers. What makes his production so notable is the timely nature of his goals. Bankier’s six goals leads all Whalers shooters so far and of those, four of them are game-winners which is tops in the PJHL. The Surrey native has notched five of his snipes on the power play, tied for best in the league. Bankier’s next tally will equal his total over 48 games last season.
SPEAKING OF D-MEN – Delta’s Tye Hemenway is averaging a point per game without benefit of a goal. The homegrown Delta product has 14 helpers in 14 games, including eight in his last six games.
JET-SETTING – If not for the scorching pace of the Ridge Meadows Flames, the Chilliwack Jets would be the talk of the Harold Brittain Conference. The Jets are just simply getting the job done. Their 8-1 start has no obvious explanation as they are fourth in their division in goals scored, have no scorers in the top-15 (Jesse Brideau‘s 7-7-14 has him 17th in the league), good but not bonkers special teams (23 per cent PP, 83 per cent PK) and no goalie in the league’s top-10 for goals-against or save percentage. Chilliwack has done well with two OT wins, including their last game with Erich Rommel scoring the winner.
NOREN KEEPS SCORIN’ – Richmond’s Nicholas Noren busted out for 36 goals and 34 assists in his rookie season, and is currently on pace to top those numbers. His 10-10-20 over 10 games includes six multi-point outings and has him third in the PJHL overall. He’s been getting it done mostly at even strength as well, though he had a shorty and a PPG in his last game, a 5-1 road win at Langley.
