PJHL alumnus Mattias Uyeda wins WHL Championship with Everett Silvertips

PJHL alumnus Mattias Uyeda is a Western Hockey League champion after the Everett Silvertips secured the Ed Chynoweth Cup on Friday.

The Silvertips defeated the Prince Albert Raiders 7-2 in Game 5 of the WHL Championship Series to capture the first league title in their franchise history.

A 19-year-old native of Vancouver, B.C., Uyeda was a key contributor in the deciding game. Late in the first period, the defenceman sent a wrist shot into the top corner for his second goal of the WHL playoffs. He skated in 31 games for Everett this season before adding 18 appearances during their dominant 16-2 postseason run.

Uyeda began 2025-26 in the PJHL with the Richmond Sockeyes before signing with the Silvertips on December 18. In total, he developed over parts of three seasons in the PJHL, compiling 133 points (29 goals, 104 assists) in 108 games. He also added 16 points across 26 PJHL playoff games.

Following his progression with the Sockeyes, Uyeda stepped into the WHL mid-season and provided valuable depth for a deep Silvertips roster down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Uyeda and the Silvertips now look to claim the franchise’s first national title when they represent the WHL at the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna, B.C., scheduled for May 22 to May 31.
