The PJHL has announced its Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22.
Zach Shaughessy, Goaltender, Delta Ice Hawks – Shaughnessy got better as the week went along and finished his week in style with a 1-0 overtime shutout. The Surrey product started the week facing the buzzsaw that is the Ridge Meadows Flames and gave way to back up Imaree Dhaliwal midway through the second as part of 10-3 setback. He had his busiest night of the week in a 6-3 road win at Langley where he made 37 stops and was named 2nd Star. Concluding the week at Grandview, Shaughnessy was 1st Star after he turned away all 25 shots that came his way, allowing his team to win it 1:50 into overtime.
Ryder Vanderkooi, Forward, Chilliwack Jets – The season has started with a bang for Vanderkooi as he’s picked up seven points in three games, helping Chilliwack to a 3-1 start. The bulk of the production for the hometown Chilliwack product came in his most recent game, an 8-2 home win over Mission City. The towering 6-foot-7, 180-pound right shot winger set up a goal in the first, two in the second and another in the third while scoring his third of the season in the middle frame on his way to 1st Star honours.
Hudson Koch, Forward, Abbotsford Pilots – Held off the scoresheet through the first three games of the season, Koch busted out in a big way last week. The hometown Abbotsford talent scored twice in the first and finished his hat trick in the third as part of a 10-2 road win at Aldergrove where he was named 1st Star. He kept it rolling the next time out as he had a hand in each of the Pilots first four goals, scoring two of them, and picked up his third assist in the final frame as Abby upended Port Moody by a 7-3 score.
