Playing the host Kimberley Dynamiters in the the 7 p.m. game Thursday on the opening day of the Mowat Cup, the Ridge Meadows Flames picked up where they left off, posting a 7-0 victory.
In their first action since a 4-1 Game 7 win on April 1 to clinch the Stonehouse Cup PJHL title, the Flames took control Thursday with a four-goal second period that included the first of two for Jack Foster.
Theo Kochan’s goal in the first period stood up as the winner with Vaugh Kaliel turning away all 31 pucks that came his way for the shutout and Game Star.
After going ahead 2-0 early in the second on a Lachlan Freer goal, Ridge Meadows was able to successfully able to kill three penalties while adding tallies from Evan Fedele, Foster and Jacob Roche to take a 5-0 lead to the final frame.
Foster put the finishing touches on with his second of the night early in the third with Nolan Bowsher capping things off with under five minutes remaining.
The Flames have a tight turnaround and play the KIJHL’s Revelstoke Grizzlies Friday in a 1 p.m. faceoff.
