While the 2023-24 PJHL season began in earnest this week, tonight’s Saturday night schedule sees the first true hockey night of the campaign with four games on the slate.
Highlighting Saturday’s action are conference games featuring Chilliwack and Mission on the Harold Brittain side of the ledger with Tom Shaw action between Richmond and North Vancouver. Chilliwack and Richmond are both 1-0 with wins over Aldergrove and Port Coquitlam respectively.
In Richmond on Thursday, the Sockeyes got a goal and two helpers from 1st Star Callum Lind in an 8-2 win over Port Coquitlam, the first ever PJHL regular season game for the Trailblazers. Robbie Toor scored the first goal in Trailblazers history, a first-period goal that briefly gave the expansion squad the lead.
Port Moody Panthers pulled away from Abbotsford with three third-period goals in Friday’s lone regular-season game, a 5-2 win for the Panthers. Connor Hughes assisted on the tying goal in the second and then scored the winner and set up an insurance marker in the final frame for Port Moody.
Looking ahead, the defending league champion Delta Ice Hawks open their account on Sunday, Sept. 10 in a road game at the Grandview Steelers. Other matchups to look forward to in the week ahead include Delta’s home opener at Ladner Leisure Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 12 against the Port Moody Panthers and the first-ever home game for the Trailblazers at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Friday, Sept 15, also against the Panthers.
